Finally, the secret is out of the bag and we get rolling on revenge theme, at least I hope I'm not fooled by the writers. I know I'm recapping this drama at a snail's speed but I can't help myself. The plot is progressing rather slowly, but I'm emotionally tied to the characters, both their merits and flaws.
Dong Joo, you need to stop with this stalking/peeking business. Get some sun! I want cuteness!
Knowing that the constant crying will lead to Young Gyu having a headache, Woo Ri threatens to leave if he doesn't stop. He thinks she's going to run away from home like Ma Ru and says he's wrong, don't leave!
Jun Ha leaves the scene with Dong Joo trailing behind him. Hyun Suk calls Jun Ha to give him a gift but he ignores her call. When he decides to pick up the phone, it's Choi Jin Chul, asking to meet up and talk about Dong Joo.
Woo Ri cheers up her dad by dancing and singing to the song they love. She stops and says, "Dad's smile is my favorite thing!" Young Gyu agrees, "Woo Ri's smile is my favorite thing!" All the while, Dong Joo is watching from a distance. He smiles calling them fools, the cute ones!
Grandma is lost and ends up at the police station. The police officers find a piece of paper with Shin Ae's address and phone number on it so they call her. Like always, she is embarrassed being pulled into this sort of situation. This image above is really creepy.
Seung Chul asks his dad to buy him a car, so he can become human, yunno, like driving around with Woo Ri! Dad calls him out on his fantasy. Woo Ri gets home and confirms with Seung Chul's dad that the signature on this paper (to buy a car) isn't his right? Goodness grace, Seung Chul scams his father! Seung Chul, I can't believe you, one of the things I hate most is faking someone else's signature!
Shin Ae brings Grandma home. She puts on a smile for Seung Chul and his dad, asking them to take care of Woo Ri. Inside the room, she kindly warns Woo Ri not to do anything regretful (like running away). Grandma took care of her when she was younger, it's time to repay your debts. Clearly, her intention isn't out of concern for Woo Ri, she's afraid that if hard-working Woo Ri runs away, she would have to take care of Grandma and Young Gyu. PSHHH, has she ever?!!
Woo Ri then requests some money so she can treat Grandma's illness but Shin Ae claims that everybody goes through the same thing when they're old. It's not a sickness one can cure. Grandma is right outside the door, eavesdropping on their conversation. Woo Ri ah! Why do you bother? Has this woman ever cough up a penny?!
Grandma returns to her room, pretending to sleep when Seung Chul comes knocking. She's actually crying, lying on the hard floor.
Dong Joo meets up with Mother Hyun Suk, who gives him a business proposal for the upcoming meeting. After he is done with the final touch-up, let Jun Hu do a final review and then have Min Soo do the presentation since she's the leader of the research department. Dong Joo tells her not to waste time, he already has a project in preparation. Mother says there's nothing wrong with a back-up plan. She guesses that Dong Joo feels inferior to them and therefore doesn't want anyone's help?
Dong Joo gives her a dose of reality,
"What's inferiority complex? I thought you said I was normal? That I've recovered? They get into an argument. Dong Joo doesn't want Jun Ha to be his guardian angel anymore, he can do his own thing. Mother tells him to stop comparing himself to Jun Ha. Everybody else doesn't know the difference but Dong Joo should know he can't hear, a disadvantage. She waves off the topic, wondering why they are fighting, they should be on the same hot plate trying to take back their company!
As Choi Jin Chul directed, Jun Ha meets him. Choi Jin Chul wonders why he has never seen Jun Ha before, when he's Dong Joo's best hyung. Jun Ha clarifies that President Choi only spares a second for his son, how could he split that one second to notice him, a stranger. Someone knocks on the door, and in comes Dong Joo. He's here to get the President's signature in order to transfer the botanical garden under his name.
The brothers leave together and Dong Joo totally becomes a baby in the presence of Jun Ha. This is the first time I notice their contrasting complexion. Kim Jae Won is so fair, like a princess while Nam Goong Min is tanned. Their little date is interfered by Director Kang, Choi Jin Chul's person, who invites Dong Joo to have dinner sometimes.
So it turns out that it's Director Kang who bought the botanical garden and gave it to Hyun Suk, who now wants to transfer it to her son. The guilt is eating up his insides so he decides that Hyun Suk deserves this much. Of course, Choi Jun Chul is shooting fire out of his ears because his subordinate is making decisions behind his back. That's it, Choi Jin Chul has decided to somehow destroy the garden so the name transfer won't take place!
He then proceeds to ask about Jun Ha's investigation and Director Kang phones his beloved daughter, Kang Min Soo. Apparently, Min Soo lies to her dad saying that she's still in America, while she's working for Hyun Suk (Notice: I suddenly remember Go Hye Mi and her dream line).
Hyun Suk has invested into a company to make Jun Ha its president. After they take over Wookyoung Cosmetics, Dong Joo can only be the president in name only. Jun Ha will be the man calling decision. Whoa, this mama! She then asks him why he didn't pick up her call earlier. Jun Ha reveals that he was meeting with Choi Jin Chul. Mama freaks out, she doesn't like to be hidden in the dark. "Choi Jin Chul is a scary person, he might hurt you Jun Ha!" Jun Ha calms her down with an embrace. Erm, not too close...now...not too close.
Grandma is tired and doesn't want to eat but the moment she sees Woo Ri and remembers her touching words, she immediately perks up.
Young Gyu heads to the botanical garden and finds Dong Joo taping up Ma Ru's fallen poster. The two spend a short time together. Aw, are they going to become good friends? And then Father-in-law and his son-in-law? I can definitely see that happening.
Next morning, Woo Ri heads to work and pauses when she hears a familiar piano song playing. She follows the sounds to Dong Joo's house. I'm placing a bet here, he's probably trying to lure her. When she peeks through the window, he quickly hides behind a pillar, smiling. Young Gyu also takes a glance inside the house. Finding that no one is there, they leave.
Dong Joo comes up with a new plan to buy Young Gyu's painting. He's going to use the name of his company Energy Cell Cosmetics to buy it. While Woo Ri is discussing the contract below, Dong Joo is sitting at a table in the second floor with Min Soo. Confirming that this is not Wookyoung Cosmetics, Woo Ri sells the painting for 3 million won.
At home, Young Gyu is busy drawing another master piece and hushes everyone to be quiet. haha! Grandma and the Lee's family are celebrating while Woo Ri rushes to the hospital to pay for Grandma's medical exams. This girl, when she is not acting like a crazy woman looking for her lost brother, she's adorable.
Grandma's physician is attending a meeting which is when Woo Ri pokes her head inside to see him. She also sees Jun Ha giving an analysis of a case study to his seniors. And looks at him admiringly.
She waits outside the door to give the physician and Jun Ha each a bag of tea. Unfortunately, Jun Ha walks past her when she's asleep. Woo Ri is late and misses the bus. Jun Ha stops his car and offers her a ride...not home, but to catch up with the bus.
During the ride, Woo Ri reveals how she earns the money, another cosmetics company called Energy Cell bought the painting with a high price. Jun Ha doesn't look too happy and decides to give her a ride home since he needs to talk to his younger brother.
The ride home isn't a pleasant one as Woo Ri fails to engage Jun Ha in a conversation; he continues to look aloof. It's not until she bangs lightly on the window does he question about her lies to win back her brother. He smiles slightly (like the young Ma Ru) as she explains what Seung Chul taught her to say. Woo Ri wonders whether she has a disease because she always think everyone looks like her brother. Jun Ha tells her a treatment: Forget about him, it cures all pain. Woo Ri (surprisingly) agrees but tells Jun Ha that she has something important to tell her brother.
Woo Ri asks to be dropped off near her house. Jun Ha gets out of his car and takes on his role as a "doctor". It's unhealthy to bottle up your feelings so he advises Woo Ri to tell him what she wants to say to her brother. And she starts:
"Hey, you think you're the only one who doesn't want to be my oppa? I don't want to be your sister either! Are you really an oppa? What kind of oppa acts like this? Why didn't you come back when you said you would? Didn't you tell me to hold onto this (the watch)? Didn't you tell me to hold onto this and wait for you, that you'd be right back? Didn't you say you'd come back and that I should wait for you? But, why haven't you returned until now? Why? Why? Seeing the way Dad and Grandma wait for you to come back every day, do you have any idea how that makes me feel? Do you know how long I've waited? Alone...alone, do you know how exhausting it is? What do you want me to do? Bong Ma Ru, you big jerk...I've shed too many tears, now the tears won't come anymore. You big jerk... Hey, Bong Ma Ru. Bong Ma Ru! Bong Ma Ru! Chicken head, cow poop, horse poop, dog poop, ant poop, punk! I'm finished."lkWow! After her awesome speech, Woo Ri bows and turns to leave which is when Jun Ha softly says, "I'm Sorry. Woo Ri, I'm sorry."
Alice: Holy Moly! Did he just admit he's Ma Ru? I hope he doesn't go back and say he's acting like her "brother". What's with May dramas and their secrets/lies?! Lies about marriage, identity, age, mission?
After this episode, I'm full on rooting for Woo Ri. I was starting to get frustrated at her constant screaming about her brother in the earlier episodes. When she agrees with Jun Ha about forgetting is the best cure, it parallels her character description. Someone who is fairly intelligent but just doesn't get the opportunity to shine and often puts herself down to make the people she loves happy. At least this is what I remember!
Her speech to Ma Ru puts a proud smile on my face. It's stripped of "love you, miss you, come back soon" and comes off as raw, honest, and heartfelt. She doesn't sugar coat her words and goes straight to name-calling. It shows that she is like any other person - she gets tired, she's exhausted, all the while smiling for the sake of everyone. Grandma sees this and appreciates her granddaughter more. Bong Woo Ri, I'm liking you now. If he doesn't come back, it's his loss. I guarantee!
